Years of Experience
Pest Spotlight

Termites are small, wood-destroying insects that live in large social colonies. Each colony divides into three different castes: workers, soldiers, and reproductives. By nature, termites feed on cellulose debris, which they primarily look for in the soil, amongst leaf litter, and most commonly, inside wood, including the wood of homes and businesses.

Common Questions

About Termites

Here in North America, termites hold the title as the number one most destructive pest. No other pest even comes close, with the termite topping the damage charts by a considerable margin, causing a remarkable five billion dollars in property damages annually. Termites live outdoors, underground, and within pieces of wood such as trees, fences, and buildings’ foundations.

Should I be worried about Termite infestation?

Termites aren't considered a danger to people's health as they do not bite, sting, or spread disease. However, they do present a significant threat to the structural wood of buildings. When termites infest a home, they begin to eat that home literally from the inside out, causing substantial wood damage. They do this by eating tunnels through your home's wood, which they then transport in their guts back to their nest as a food source for their colony. This is how termite colonies, and the threats they pose, grow in and around your home.

What Factors Cause a Termite Infestation?

Once on your property, termites will be drawn to the best source of wood they can find. For termites such as the subterranean termite, the most common termite found in Oklahoma, their ideal source of wood is soft, decaying, or water-damaged wood. And as long as they can gain access to that softwood, your home is at risk! If your home has any leaks or exterior gutter problems that allow its wood to become damp, soft, or water-damaged, subterranean termites will be able to find what they are looking for.
